Take the Headache out of Auto Insurance Claims

By George Bixby

Unfortunately virtually all drivers will have a traffic accident at some point in their driving careers, and they will have to deal with all the stress and trauma that comes with it. On top of this comes the auto insurance claims process. Not exactly the most easy thing in the world to complete.

There are several things you can do to make filing an auto insurance claim as painless as possible. What follows below are just a few of them.

The single most effective thing you can do is to check out the reputation of the auto insurance companies online before you purchase your car insurance from them. This is not hard to do as most of the sites dealing with auto insurance quotes have a wealth of information available to you.

Create an "accident kit" and place it somewhere in your car that is easy to get to. The kit should include a first aid box, a pen and paper to jot down details of the accident and a disposable camera to take pictures at the scene of the accident.

What do you do after an accident? Don't Panic! You will be in a state of shock which is quite natural but resist the urge to run away. Not only is it illegal, but it virtually guarantees that you will fail in a claim.

The very first thing to do is check that no one is hurt. If someone is injured then call the police and ambulance immediately. It is important that you file a claim with your car insurance company as soon as possible.

Keep a file to record everything that happens regarding your claim. In it you should keep all your notes and any photographs that were done at the time of the accident. You should also keep a written record of all your conversations with your auto insurance company including the name of the person you speak with. The file should also be used to keep any repair bills and medical expenses that were incurred because of the accident.

If you follow the advice given above you should never have a problem filing an auto insurance claim after an accident.
